Organizing Your Personalized Gift-Giving…
If shopping for the perfect gift has been a challenge, you need to know about this. It will change the way you give gifts forever!
Besides, you need to pick up a great read for the long winter evenings ahead anyway. 🙂
For the Love of Relationships…
Books that improve my life in practical ways become my trusted friends. Today I would like you to meet one of my best friends – 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman.
This series will change your relationships. It will change the way you communicate and show your love to family and friends.
Everyone has a love language – the most effective way we each communicate and understand love or appreciation.
What? No More Ties and Chocolate?
The most astounding discovery I made when reading this book was realizing that I won’t have to default to ties and chocolate anymore – although I’ve never had an issue with the latter. 😉
It was a revelation that I could give loved ones gifts that can’t be purchased yet they would feel more loved than ever!
The 5 Love Languages Defined
If you haven’t heard of Chapman’s theory, please allow me to briefly explain these five languages as I am quite sure you will be quite inspired by his books.
Words of Affirmation
Have you ever met someone who really responds to verbal encouragement – more so than others? There is a real possibility that they understand love that is communicated through words of encouragement and affirmation.
Greeting cards, letters of encouragement, and handwritten memory journals mean everything to this loved one. They are the friends who keep encouraging notes from you for decades.
If you start a journal for all your children when they are young, it will be the child with this love language that will treasure it into their senior years.
Gift idea – You could write a journal this year for your friend and include all the memories you will create together this coming year. What a treasure it will be, a year from now, as she reads it and realizes just how special she is to you!
Acts of Service
Loved ones who are always looking for ways to help people in a practical way, might actually be showing you that they prefer the acts of service love language. Watch their reaction when you do something thoughtful for them like shoveling or warming up their vehicle and scraping the snow off on a cold winter morning.
My husband is definitely prefers this love language. He washes dishes, sweeps the floor, warms my car, and really appreciates when I demonstrate my love through acts of service for him.
This Christmas, I will give him a special note card that promises to do a practical task he needs help with. I have put an alarm on my phone to remind me to do this favour for him every Friday on my way home from work.
He will feel loved and will appreciate my time and effort every week throughout the year – a gift that keeps on giving!
Do you have a Santa Claus in your family? No one enjoys gift-giving and receiving like this elf!
Likewise, when you give something to them, they never forget. They can remember who gave them everything and when.
Gift-giving events are their favourite time. They put the greatest effort into shopping for just the perfect gift for each one on their list.
They are not materialistic – instead, gifting is just the purest expression of love for them. And they appreciate it when someone puts just as much thought into their gifts.
Let’s meet at the tea room. Want to go shopping Saturday? Everyone likes to connect once in a while, but for those who communicate love through giving of quality time will always be looking for a way to spend time with you.
Gift ideas for this party person could be something as simple as a tea room gift card for the two of you to enjoy quality time together. Tickets to share an event like a play, concert, or sporting event are also a great expression of love for this special person.
Giving them experience related gifts is the ticket to communicating your love to them.
Everyone’s gettin’ a hug! For the cuddler on your list, soft blankets and cozy slippers. Anything hug-gable like stuffed animals for the young ones – will send a thoughtful message of love.
However, if it is your honey, this can be the easiest gift of all. Be creative and have fun with this one. Your spouse will love you for it!

Organizing Your Gift-Giving Process
Imagine the fun you will have giving the most thoughtful and personal gifts this year. Write a list of gift-giving ideas for every loved one and each occasion for this year and jot down thoughts as they come to mind.
Pop it in your purse or digital device so you won’t miss any great gifting thoughts as you go about your year.
…Or even better, store the list on your calendar on an appropriate day and set reminder alarms as the task approaches. Can you tell I am incredibly forgetful? Alarms have become my favourite memory tool. 😉
Think Outside the Gift Box
Starting now gives you plenty of time to order advanced tickets for the “quality time” people on your list. You will have time to write a journal of memories for your person who appreciates “words of encouragement”. The ways to show affection are only limited to your imagination!
